    Prepare the sauce:

    Sauté onion and celery in salad oil for about 10 minutes.

    In a large mixing bowl, tear bread slices into small pieces and add the sautéed onion and celery mixture.

    Add the raw ground beef, shredded carrot, salt, pepper, egg, and ketchup. Mix thoroughly with your hands.

    Shape the meat mixture by selecting a baking dish or container, spraying it with cooking spray, and pressing the meat into the container. Then carefully turn the meat out into the oven-safe baking dish you'll be using. The dish should be covered and sprayed with cooking spray.

    Place meat in the oven, uncovered, under the broiler for 5-10 minutes until the top and sides are seared to a light brown. This helps to hold the meat together as it cooks.

    Remove from oven and pour tomato sauce over top of meat.

    Cover and bake for 1.5 hours at 350°F.
