Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. 2

**Make the topping:** In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Make a well in the center and blend in egg, mixing until the topping is crumbly. Set aside.

  3. 3

**Make the filling:** Mix flour and sugar in a small bowl. Place blackberries in a large bowl and sprinkle with the flour-sugar mixture. Toss gently to evenly coat berries.

  4. 4

Transfer berry mixture to a well-buttered oval pot pie dish or a 9"x9"x2" baking dish.

  5. 5

Sprinkle topping over berries. Drizzle melted butter evenly over the crumbly topping.

  6. 6

Place baking dish on a cookie sheet to prevent spillovers in oven.

  7. 7

Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes.

💡 Cook's Notes

**Southern Living's "easier" method:** Use the same topping but leave out the baking powder. Sprinkle berries with lemon juice and/or liqueur. Sprinkle crumbs on top and drizzle with 6 oz melted butter. **Variation:** Add cinnamon to the crumb topping. Try using 2 eggs for a richer topping. Cover the top with Demerara sugar before baking. Grease the baking dish for easier cleanup. Bake at 375°F for 35-40 minutes.
