    Preheat oven to 475°F.

    Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat (or in microwave).

    Remove pan from heat and whisk in the 4 egg yolks until mixture thickens slightly (no need to cook the yolks).

    Transfer to a regular mixing bowl.

    Beat egg whites until almost stiff, then beat in the sugar.

    Add half the egg whites to the chocolate mixture and fold together gently with a whisk, blending carefully.

    Using a rubber spatula, fold in the remaining whites until mixture is blended.

    Pour into a prepared 4-cup mold.

    Place in oven and immediately reduce temperature to 465°F. Bake for 5 minutes.

    Reduce heat to 425°F and bake 5 to 7 more minutes.

    Remove from oven and serve immediately.

💡 Cook's Notes

Sprinkle top with powdered sugar and serve immediately. A nice vanilla sauce goes well with this dish. If you chill it instead of baking it, you'll have a nice mousse.
