    In an electric mixer, cream butter (or margarine) and gradually beat in sugar and dash of salt until mixture is fluffy.

    Add liquor (4 Tbsp or 1/4 cup), beating continuously.

    Chill until cold but not hard.

    Optional: For a lighter, fluffier hard sauce, beat one pasteurized egg white to stiff peaks and gently fold into finished sauce, then chill.

💡 Cook's Notes

**Butterscotch Hard Sauce variation:** 1/2 cup butter 1 cup brown sugar 2 tsp vanilla 2 Tbsp evaporated milk dash of salt
