    Combine sugar, flour, and salt in a saucepan.

    Slowly stir in the hot scalded milk.

    Cook over low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly until mixture is thickened.

    Beat the eggs in a separate bowl. Mix a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten eggs to temper them.

    Add the tempered eggs to the hot mixture and cook 1 minute longer.

    Pre-chill the custard base in the refrigerator.

    Stir in cream and vanilla.

    Pour into ice cream freezer and freeze according to manufacturer's directions.

💡 Cook's Notes

For extra richness, use all cream and omit the milk.
