Instructions

  1. 1

In a food processor, sift/mix dry ingredients together.

  2. 2

Cut butter into tablespoon-size pieces and drop into food processor, cutting butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles cornmeal.

  3. 3

Stir together 1/2 cup buttermilk and the beaten egg. Add mixture to flour mixture (either using the food processor or by hand in a bowl). Stir quickly, conservatively adding remainder of buttermilk as necessary until dough forms a ball.

  4. 4

Turn onto floured surface and knead once. Let dough rest for a minute, then roll out (or hand flatten) to 3/4" thickness. Cut into 2" rounds (or as desired).

  5. 5

Place biscuits on a buttered baking sheet, 1" apart. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

💡 Cook's Notes

For cheese biscuits, when kneading dough, knead in 1/2 cup grated cheese bits.
