  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. 2

Combine tomato sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, hot sauce, oregano, orange juice, and BBQ sauce in a medium bowl. Set aside.

  3. 3

Remove as much skin and fat as possible from the chicken pieces.

  4. 4

Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  5. 5

Dredge chicken pieces in the seasoned flour mixture.

  6. 6

Fry chicken for 3 minutes per side until lightly browned and surface-cooked.

  7. 7

Transfer fried chicken to a Dutch oven.

  8. 8

Pour the sauce over the chicken, adding any fresh herbs from the garden if desired.

  9. 9

Cover and bake for 55 minutes.

💡 Cook's Notes

Better to overcook than undercook this recipe—the BBQ sauce keeps things moist. If using a lower temperature (350°F), you may need additional time; legs especially need to be well cooked.
