
Apple Upside-Down Cake
A classic upside-down cake with caramelized apples and warm cinnamon spice. The apples cook in homemade caramel before being topped with tender cake batter.

Instructions
Prepare the Caramelized Apples

Make caramel
In a skillet, cook sugar and water until a light caramel forms.

Cook apples
Add apples and cook apples in hot caramel sauce.

Transfer to pan
Remove from heat and transfer to a buttered and floured mold, like a cake tin or bundt pan. Make sure apple pieces lie as flat as possible at the bottom.
Make the Cake Batter

Mix eggs and cinnamon
In a bowl, mix eggs and cinnamon well with a whisk, about 1 minute.

Add wet ingredients
Add vanilla, sugar, oil/butter and water/milk and mix again until all ingredients have come fully together.

Combine dry ingredients
Mix flour, baking powder and salt, and then pour that dry mix into the wet and stir together until well mixed.

Pour batter
Pour batter over apples. Spread evenly.
